Concept: A woman in rough waters gazing up at the sky, cool toned piece.
Medium: Acrylic paint on canvas
My “Womanhood” series is personal, yes, but touches on something deeper than just being a woman. Lonliness has always been a part of me, and I explore the emotions lonliness can bring forward.
As the first in my “Womanhood” series, I wanted to express the inner turmoil and the desperation that can sometimes surface while being alone.
WOMANHOOD 1
Ashburn, VA
2020
Concept: A woman in a white abyss turned away, cool toned clothes with warm tones in the subject.
Medium: Acrylic paint on canvas
This piece expresses the calm and peace that comes with being alone. After confronting the fear of it, a sort of acceptance trigger in the form of serenity.
WOMANHOOD 2
Ashburn, VA
2019
Concept: A woman with her eyes closed turned towards the viewer. Black and white piece.
Medium: Acrylic paint on canvas
This piece is meant to represent the introspection that may take place when left alone too long. Overthinking, endless analyzation, inside-outside, day-night, it’s all the same.
WOMANHOOD 3
Richmond, VA
2021
Concept: A woman in rough waters lying down on a bed and staring at the sea through curtains, cool toned subject with warm tones in the background.
Medium: Acrylic paint on canvas
The final stage in deep lonliness, depression. Depression so deep that the thought of asking for help has long since passed. Floating in the middle of the ocean again, but this time, unable to feel anything at all.
WOMANHOOD 4
Doha, Qatar
2024
Concept: What does it look like when I…
Medium: Acrylic paint on canvas
What initially started as an experiment with the palate knife quickly turned into abstracted fish swimming through dark waters. This is the most enjoyable part of art to me, the pieces that ask to be made.
